Deerfield Academy review by Princeton University student: Especially strong in the english department and the art professor, Mr. Dickinson, is awesome. Also really good at history (take Mr. Heise's class). Kids tend to be pretty preppy and boys fall into the "lax bro" persona a bit. Not especially competitive, kids are nice. Science and Math is more lecture based (about 15-18 kids), humanities are smaller classes (10ish) and conversation based. Teachers go out of their way to help you and are always available outside of class. Work load really depends on your classes and how many you take. But if you use your frees well you won't have more than a couple of hours a night.

Classes go till about 3:15 and then co curriculars (required each term) go for about two hours. I think the school does a good job of balancing academics and activities. You can play a sport, dance, be in the play, or get a music or art exemption. You just have to be involved in something. Also there are a ton of great clubs to get involved in. and you can always start your own. Sports are huge, i would say art and music is second to that. Lacrosse, hockey and soccer are big. Squash to. Choate is the main rival. Community service is another option for co currics. There are a TON of options. you can be as involved as you want.
Dorms are awesome! some newer than others but the faculty residents are all great. food is great, but sit down meal are required for lunch (except weekends and wed) and dinners (tuesday thursday sunday). There are definitely the "popular" east coast kids, usually the lax and hockey bros and the greenwich girls, but everyone finds their nitch. Ethnic groups tend to cling to eachother. The health center is awesome and the staff is super nice. LOTS of traditions and songs. People really "bleed green" with bonfires, school meeting, cheers, etc. The school has gotten more strict ever since Margarita Curtis became headmaster, but it's still lots of fun. You can't get away with much though. And deerfield is pretty much in the middle of nowhere fyi
