Royal Grammar School Guildford review by University of Cambridge student: The Royal Grammar School (Guilford) has an incredible academic record, performing each year in the top 20 of both the GCSE and A Level records tables for the UK, if not the top 10. The strengths are mainly in Maths and related subjects, but the record is so high across the board that the difference between these subjects and others are minimal. The nature of the student body is friendly and the competiton between students is not really apprent, though high enough to produce excellent results. The preparation for University is top-class, producing well-rounded individuals, ready for the differing challenges of Higher Education. The average class size up to GCSE is 20, but less for fringe subjects. Beyond this level the class size may drop to 10, but maybe more for Maths. I was a good friend with many of the teachers when I left, and would be willing to meet up with the majority of them again. The work load is however quite high, with very few 'frees' in the Sixth Form compared to similar schools, and homework from the First Year is weighty.
