Berkeley Carroll Schoolreview by SUNY - New Paltz student. I think that Berkeley Carroll did a great job of preparing me for college. When I first started Berkeley Carroll, coming from a public school, I was a bit unprepared. I was not a great writer and my math skills were just mediocre. 4 years later when I began college I felt as if I was ahead of a lot of my peers and was greatly prepared for the next 4 years of college. The Berkeley Carroll School does not just have one strength when it comes to academics. This school takes students and creates them into adults who want to learn. The teachers care about their students and do anything to create a comfortable learning environment. I believe that one particular aspect of the Berkeley Carroll School that has prepared me for the academic rigors of college is the way they taught me how to write. Even though I was not a great writer as a freshman, my teachers never gave up on me. Instead they worked extra with me and now I believe that I am a great writer. Another aspect that made me love the academics at Berkeley Carroll were the small class sizes and the focus on group discussions rather than just lectures. The classes sizes were not larger than 15 and teachers always had extra hours to help students out if they needed extra help.
The campus culture at the Berkeley Carroll school is very liberal. There were always campus wide community days such as diversity day. This was a day where the school would get together in order to talk about the diversity in the school. This is not the only event that the school had, there were multiple days like this. The Berkeley Carroll school was not too rigid in terms of discipline. If you were to get into trouble, they would not just punish you but instead punish you in a way in that you would be able to learn from your mistake.
I played many sports at the Berkeley Carroll School and they sports were decent my first two years. As I got older the competition level amongst the other schools we played and the players at berkeley carroll that were interested was very weak. I was a very competitive athlete and could have used a school that cared more about their athletics. I was also involved in student government which was great! We had meetings every couple of weeks and they took it very serious. Most of the students participated in extra-curricular activities as well as their academics and this made for very well rounded students. There were many activities for students and because of this it was easy for students to get involved in something they were interested in. Berkeley Carroll did a great of supporting students and providing activities for students to participate in.
