Cranbrook Schools review by .

Cranbrook is an academically rigorous college prep school. From the perspective of an international student, I am most impressed by the intensity of the writing assignments that the school provides which better prepared me for college writing and literature classes. The AP classes at Cranbrook have really high quality. Though students are only allowed to take three AP classes per year, all classes are college level and they have very heavy work load. Cranbrook focuses on learning through discussion. Classes are small in size and the teachers pay equal attention to every individual. I feel very involved in most of my classes. The teacher encourages us to be spontaneous and creative during class. The learning experience at cranbrook is absolutely fantastic.

College Counseling

The college counseling system at Cranbrook is very efficient. Starting Junior year, students are assigned....

Sample insights on college counseling

  • They have contacts at most of the major universities and feel perfectly comfortable picking up the phone and advocating for a student to get accepted somewhere they feel is a good fit for that student. However, these counselors are certainly not magic bullets. They cannot guarantee that a student will get into an Ivy League university...
  • For those wishing to move on to Oxford or Cambridge, the provision is second-to-none. Sample insights on admissions

  • For the interview, dress conservatively. Try to be very clean and put together. Also, I was a tour guide for two years and at the end of every tour, we were asked to evaluate the candidate so if you think the tour is not apart of the process, you are very wrong. Ask questions and be interested. Also, tip for the parents: the kids speak on the tour. Do not ask their questions for them...
  • Most younger siblings have an easy time in the admissions process. I can only think of one case of a younger sibling not being admitted. About half of the students who entered with me had come from public schools. The remainder came from private K-6 schools, or had transferred from other New York private schools The Elizabeth Morrow School and St. Bernard were two of the larger feeder schools...

School Life

The student life at Cranbrook is very diverse and intriguing. With 13% international student body, the school values ethnic diversity and cultural differences. We have Sino club, Korean club, world club and Brown club. These different elements of the student body makes our life at Cranbrook a unique experience. Located in Bloomfield Hills, a very affluent community, Cranbrook is a school that shows care and attention toward our neighborhood. The bridge the Divide program connects Cranbrooks students to downtown Detroit. Students are very willing to contribute to the community here at Cranbrook. ...
