Landon School review by Bucknell University student.
When I came to college, I felt very prepared for the most part. Landon's stellar English, History, Social Sciences, and language departments are second to none and prepare students very well to meet the rigors of college. During my entire first year, I did not get a single grade below an A- on any essay or assignment which dealt with oral or written communication. Landon's math and science departments, however, are not nearly as strong. They do a sufficient job in preparing its students for college mathematics and sciences, but not nearly as good of a job as the other departments at Landon. Overall, I felt very comfortable with my academic transition to college because of Landon's fantastic academic program. Landon's teaching philosophy differs among teachers, but it was primarily more focused on discussions with your peers. I personally believe this method works best since lectures don't allow students to challenge their preexisting knowledge and beliefs. The discussion based classes with the small class sizes allow the students to optimize their potential.

They have contacts at most of the major universities and feel perfectly comfortable picking up the phone and advocating for a student to get accepted somewhere they feel is a good fit for that student. However, these counselors are certainly not magic bullets. They cannot guarantee that a student will get into an Ivy League university...
For those wishing to move on to Oxford or Cambridge, the provision is second-to-none. In the months running up to application and interview, every subject faculty offers classes (often run by former Oxbridge tutors) exploring further areas of their subject as well as offering advice on personal statements, interview technique and more...

For the interview, dress conservatively. Try to be very clean and put together. Also, I was a tour guide for two years and at the end of every tour, we were asked to evaluate the candidate so if you think the tour is not apart of the process, you are very wrong. Ask questions and be interested. Also, tip for the parents: the kids speak on the tour. Do not ask their questions for them...
Most younger siblings have an easy time in the admissions process. I can only think of one case of a younger sibling not being admitted. About half of the students who entered with me had come from public schools. The remainder came from private K-6 schools, or had transferred from other New York private schools The Elizabeth Morrow School and St. Bernard were two of the larger feeder schools...
My experience at Landon was second to none. That being said, Landon is a unique place which caters to certain types of students. This, however, doesn't limit the intellectual, ethnic, and socio-economic diversity at Landon. Yes, the majority of Landon is caucasian and comes from upper-middle or upper class families. This being said, the stereotypes associated with elite private schools is wrong to put upon Landon. 90% of students and families are very humble, level headed, and incredibly outgoing. Landon is also continuously making sure they increase their ethnic and socio-economic diversity in the school because they realize that the....
