Loomis Chaffee School review by University of Chicago student.
Loomis had a strong, supportive infrastructure determined to help students succeed. Tutoring programs were always available, and class sizes were small so that intimate student-teacher relationships were prevalent. The teaching methods were consistent of most prep schools, nothing spectacular, mostly solid, although there were a few teachers that must be described as diva's. The teachers were generally very good, bordering on brilliant, and as cliche as it might sound my world-perspective was greatly enhanced by some of the teachers in my very first year. There were visiting lectures on occasion, but not terribly frequently. The school's facilities were tremendous, with a better campus than many colleges. The average work load was not overbearing.

Also, I was a tour guide for two years and at the end of every tour, we were asked to evaluate the candidate so if you think the tour is not apart of the process, you are very wrong. Ask questions and be interested. Also, tip for the parents: the kids speak on the tour. Do not ask their questions for them...
Most younger siblings have an easy time in the admissions process. I can only think of one case of a younger sibling not being admitted. About half of the students who entered with me had come from public schools. The remainder came from private K-6 schools, or had transferred from other New York private schools The Elizabeth Morrow School and St. Bernard were two of the larger feeder schools...
The dorms are very nice, with both singles and doubles available. Initially boys and girls dorms are separate, but eventually coed dorms are available. The campus is beautiful, and the facilities are also state of the art, although I would describe the food as mediocre at best. The neighborhood is quaint and very safe, with several good pizza places and more upscale restaurants for when parents come to visit. There are many social events on campus to compensate for the suburban environment. The only social negative is perhaps the at times prevalent hazing practices that....
