Northfield Mount Hermon School review by Lehigh University student.
I personally believe that when it comes to the humanities department (english, religious studies, philosophy, etc) NMH is incredibly good with their teachers. However, I also think that their Math and Science departments are severely lacking. The issue mainly comes from poor teachers (great people that know their stuff, just can't teach well at all). It is either incredibly difficult to do well in the class due to the teacher not teaching the subject properly which the student then is forced to self teach themselves the material, or the class becomes a joke where everything is too easy. NMH would say they pride themselves maintaining a broad education system but I personally find everything but their humanities lacking. Class sizes are always no bigger than 15 students as they encourage student participation in class. Also keep in mind that the school system is on a Semester system. This means you will be taking the first half of your classes in the fall with final exams in December, then the second in the spring with finals in May (just like in college).
I do not think you can find a better college counseling office than NMH. The.... Get the real inside story on college counseling at Northfield Mount Hermon School as experienced by former pupil and Lehigh University student — Login or Sign Up to access full review

They have contacts at most of the major universities and feel perfectly comfortable picking up the phone and advocating for a student to get accepted somewhere they feel is a good fit for that student. However, these counselors are certainly not magic bullets. They cannot guarantee that a student will get into an Ivy League university...
For those wishing to move on to Oxford or Cambridge, the provision is second-to-none. In the months running up to application and interview, every subject faculty offers classes (often run by former Oxbridge tutors) exploring further areas of their subject as well as offering advice on personal statements, interview technique and more...

For the interview, dress conservatively. Try to be very clean and put together. Also, I was a tour guide for two years and at the end of every tour, we were asked to evaluate the candidate so if you think the tour is not apart of the process, you are very wrong. Ask questions and be interested. Also, tip for the parents: the kids speak on the tour. Do not ask their questions for them...
Most younger siblings have an easy time in the admissions process. I can only think of one case of a younger sibling not being admitted. About half of the students who entered with me had come from public schools. The remainder came from private K-6 schools, or had transferred from other New York private schools The Elizabeth Morrow School and St. Bernard were two of the larger feeder schools...
I would definitely describe the student body as very open and liberal. It's difficult to find someone you would truly hate on the campus as everyone is pretty close. We were always open and ready to help anyone out with any difficulties. The food in the dining hall was definitely the best out of all the schools I visited. Since we were way up in the mountains, there wasn't really any town we could just walk into but the school does do weekly mall trips and you can always call a cab to Greenfield if you ever need to get....
