Prairie School review by Brown University student.
Teachers were usually available, both for and after class. However, the quality of the teaching staff was not usually of any exceptional character. The teachers were akin to any teachers I have had at other schools. Good, not unusual. The student body was fiercely competitive. New students are looked at as fresh-bait. The first year I was in attendance I was bullied. This was fairly normal. Classes were usually lecture based. The mathematics instruction I received was phenomenal. Also the art program is probably the strongest in the nation, it is the only primary school in the United States with a glass blowing studio. Remedial help was always available. Help for dyslexia is not offered.

They have contacts at most of the major universities and feel perfectly comfortable picking up the phone and advocating for a student to get accepted somewhere they feel is a good fit for that student. However, these counselors are certainly not magic bullets. They cannot guarantee that a student will get into an Ivy League university...
For those wishing to move on to Oxford or Cambridge, the provision is second-to-none. Ask questions and be interested. Also, tip for the parents: the kids speak on the tour. Do not ask their questions for them...
Most younger siblings have an easy time in the admissions process. I can only think of one case of a younger sibling not being admitted. About half of the students who entered with me had come from public schools. The remainder came from private K-6 schools, or had transferred from other New York private schools The Elizabeth Morrow School and St. Bernard were two of the larger feeder schools...
The school has a very strong support system... but it can be misused. Younger students that seem shy can be paired with older students as "buddies". The Headmaster tries to take special care of individual students. There are multiple tutors that can become support figures. The school's discipline was too rigid. Students were always getting in trouble for things, and punishments would go on for weeks -months even- building on each other anytime there was a new "infraction". Certain students: children of donors, children of teachers, etc. always received noticeably more lenient punishment. Most students were upper-middle class, mostly children of....
