St. Andrew's College review by .

The school provides a comprehensive academic program that covers a wide range of academic topics from engineering to the arts. Students can choose whichever courses that interests them and the faculty is always helpful in encouraging students to excel. Many of the teachers live on campus so they are there to provide extra help 24 hours of the day. For boarding students, teachers that are on duty around the boarding houses often provide extra-help time in the evening and many boarding students find these times to be very helpful. Such program has become so popular that day students would either stick around or drive up to school in the evening to attend these sessions. The class size is small, around 18-22 students and teachers are always engaging the students on whatever the topic may be. The workload is as heavy as you want it to be, there's always extras that you can do for the assignment. When the school notice the student is having difficulty in the class room, they are provided assistance with after school help everyday of the week. If the student wants, the teachers are even willing to spare weekend times to meet with the students. One of the best asset of the school is its dedicated faculty.

College Counseling

I made my first list of colleges towards the end of Grade 11 with my....

Sample insights on college counseling

  • They have contacts at most of the major universities and feel perfectly comfortable picking up the phone and advocating for a student to get accepted somewhere they feel is a good fit for that student. However, these counselors are certainly not magic bullets. They cannot guarantee that a student will get into an Ivy League university...
  • For those wishing to move on to Oxford or Cambridge, the provision is second-to-none. In the months running up to application and interview, every subject faculty offers classes (often run by former Oxbridge tutors) exploring further areas of their subject as well as offering advice on personal statements, interview technique and more...

Admissions - Getting Accepted

Sample insights on admissions

  • For the interview, dress conservatively. Try to be very clean and put together. Also, I was a tour guide for two years and at the end of every tour, we were asked to evaluate the candidate so if you think the tour is not apart of the process, you are very wrong. Ask questions and be interested. Also, tip for the parents: the kids speak on the tour. Do not ask their questions for them...
  • Most younger siblings have an easy time in the admissions process. I can only think of one case of a younger sibling not being admitted. About half of the students who entered with me had come from public schools. The remainder came from private K-6 schools, or had transferred from other New York private schools The Elizabeth Morrow School and St. Bernard were two of the larger feeder schools...

School Life

The quality of life is exceptionally well and probably lead the country in terms of the housing conditions and cafeteria-dinning. The athletic facilities that the school provides is top of the line, and with newly installed turf-fields, students are able to excel on the sports field with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities. There are countless of soccer fields, squash courts, two full size gyms, and a indoor swimming pools. There is also a large workout facility for students who are serious about improving in athletics. It is perfectly same and the school has a systematic way of regulating students' entry and....
