Tabor Academy review by University of Pennsylvania student.
I cannot say Academics at Tabor is the best, but it's not the worst. I didn't feel like classes are that challenging at Tabor, but somehow they prepared me well for my academic life in college. Lots of AP classes offered. If you are interested in Marine science or Oceanology, this is the right place for you. Tabor is right on the harbor. We has a pretty small class size in general. Also, for math, we do have classes for beyond AP, like differential equation and multi variables (those two classes help me a lot when I come to college).
I start thinking about college pretty late comparing to others. Still I found my college.... Get the real inside story on college counseling at Tabor Academy as experienced by former pupil and University of Pennsylvania student — Login or Sign Up to access full review
Sample insights on college counseling
They have contacts at most of the major universities and feel perfectly comfortable picking up the phone and advocating for a student to get accepted somewhere they feel is a good fit for that student. For those wishing to move on to Oxford or Cambridge, the provision is second-to-none. Ask questions and be interested. Also, tip for the parents: the kids speak on the tour. Do not ask their questions for them...
Most younger siblings have an easy time in the admissions process. I can only think of one case of a younger sibling not being admitted. About half of the students who entered with me had come from public schools. The remainder came from private K-6 schools, or had transferred from other New York private schools The Elizabeth Morrow School and St. Bernard were two of the larger feeder schools...
Housing at Tabor is pretty good. The dorm parents are mostly nice. We do have cook out almost every weekend, and that was fun. Sometime they bake brownies and cookies, and obviously they're gone in a sec. Food at Tabor is ok. I mean it's not the best thing to remember, but it's edible, and sometimes it's really good. The neighborhood around tabor is quiet. It's kinda in the middle of no where. You need to ask someone to drive you to the bus station to go some where else. Tabor is 1:30 from Boston, and 45 min from Providence....
